Why Rhema Development Foundation Stepped In

During field visits to communities like Tubur Village in Soroti District and rural areas of Kapchorwa and Katakwi District, the Rhema Development Foundation team witnessed the stark daily realities faced by individuals living with physical disabilities. Without basic mobility devices, vulnerable children and adults were forced to crawl on bare, rough ground to move around their compounds or feed themselves. This severe lack of mobility left many isolated at home, unable to attend school, work, or participate in community life.

At the exact same time, our assessments revealed that local healthcare facilities were facing a parallel crisis. Places like Kapchorwa General Hospital lacked functional wheelchairs to transfer patients safely between wards, leaving medical staff and family members struggling to carry sick patients by hand.

Seeing both individual community members and essential health centers struggling without basic transport, Rhema Development Foundation took action to bridge this gap.

The Power of Partnership: Hope Health Action (HHA)

Recognizing the massive need on the ground, Rhema Development Foundation reached out to Hope Health Action (HHA) with field data and baseline assessments. In response to our advocacy, Hope Health Action generously donated 100 high-quality, durable wheelchairs specifically designed for rugged, unpaved rural terrain.

Rhema Development Foundation handled all local logistics, community mobilization, beneficiary verification, and physical fittings on the ground. We worked in close coordination with local village disability committees, district leaders, and health facility administrators to ensure every wheelchair reached someone in critical need.

Before vs. After

Before the Intervention: Individuals with disabilities were confined to crawling on the ground or relying entirely on family members for basic movement, while Katakwi District and Kapchorwa General Hospital lacked wheelchairs to transport weak patients safely between wards.

After the Intervention: Persons with physical disabilities received custom-fitted wheelchairs restoring their personal independence and dignity, while Kapchorwa General Hospital received dedicated facility chairs to streamline patient transport.

Proven Impact & Data Proof

100 Wheelchairs Mobilized: Secured 100 specialized wheelchairs through our partnership with Hope Health Action.

Direct Community Impact: 43 individuals across Kapchorwa District (26 in Chepsokor village and 17 in Kapchorwa Town Council) received personal mobility devices on June 17.

Institutional Support: 2 heavy-duty facility wheelchairs were formally handed over to the In-Charge at Kapchorwa General Hospital, solving patient transfer challenges across hospital wards.

Ongoing Regional Outreach: The remaining wheelchairs from this donation drive are actively being fitted and distributed to verified beneficiaries across surrounding villages in Soroti and neighboring districts.
